I am now self-taught in classical painting.
My name is Lída Holubová and I create under the nickname Gnóme. I am a painter and freelance illustrator living in Prague now.
My work most often combines fantasy and nature: motifs inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, myths and legends, but also the quiet world of the forest – trees, moss, and mushrooms. I enjoy telling stories through images, capturing the atmosphere and light of places and the little stories hidden in the landscape.
In my illustrations of the world of Middle-earth I'm trying to capture the poetic and depth of Tolkien's books and I like to use various subtle symbols and references to his tales and illustrations in my paintings and drawings. I also collaborated with Tolkien Gateway, Tolkien Society, Sekcja Tolkienowska, Clamavi de Profundis, the musicians "Poetické Společenstvo" and many others.
I most often work with acrylics, watercolors, oil paints, and pencil or pen drawings. I like drawing comics and trying to find new paths in art.
